Neck Lift Procedural Steps

Incisions are made under the chin and/or behind the ears to:

  • tighten the neck muscles to enhance definition in the midline and along the entire jaw
  • remove and sculpt excess fat
  • trim excess skin
  • trim or suspend bulging submandibular glands

The extent of the procedure and which incision(s) are utilized depend on the degree of laxity and sagging. If jowls are present, a neck lift alone will result in sub-optimal correction, therefore, a neck lift is commonly performed at the same time as a face lift.

Non-Surgical Solutions

Combination therapies are important in the delicate neck and décolleté areas for total rejuvenation. Surgery will rebuild the underlying foundation, but injectables, lasers and skin care work in tandem to create better and longer lasting results. These tools are also used in younger patients who are focused on maintaining their youthful neck.

Injectable Solution: Botox can used to soften the appearance of vertical muscle banding or cords and horizontal lines or “necklace” lines. Dermal fillers are used along the jawline in areas where volume loss is present.

Laser Solution: Keep in mind that a Neck Lift will create a more youthful looking neck and jawline by removing excess skin and recontouring the underlying tissues, but it will not improve the texture or tone of the skin. Think of the neck lift as taking care of what’s under the skin and not the skin itself. BBL, Halo and/or laser resurfacing procedures will help restore collagen, even the skin tone and create healthier, younger skin.

Prevention: Remember to always give your neck the same attention you give your face. This includes topical skin care, including retinoids, antioxidants, and sunscreen. Forever Young BBL treatments 2-4 times per year can prevent aging of the neck and décolleté skin.

Neck Lift Results

After surgery, the patient will be placed in dressings and a compression garment to help keep the new position of the neck muscles and help prevent bruising and swelling. In some cases, drains may be placed and will require removal within several days. Sutures and post-operative bands will also need to be removed within seven to ten days with the compression garment worn at night for four to six weeks.

After surgery, patients are able to return to work within one week but are not permitted to full physical activity until six weeks following surgery to allow the incisions plenty of time to heal. Once the swelling and bruising resolve, the patient will be left with a more youthful-looking neck and a renewed appearance that last for years to come. Although neck lift surgery can’t completely stop the hands of time, it can turn back the clock and help return a youthful, radiant appearance.

Restora Austin: Neck Lift FAQS

Here, Dr. Ashley Gordon and Dr. Dustin Reid share answers to some of the most frequently asked questions you might have if you’re considering a neck lift in the Austin area.

How Long Do Neck Results Typically Last?

Most neck lift results last patients for about 10 to 15 years. You can maintain your results by taking good care of your skin with topical creams, daily sunscreen application, and seeing your doctor periodically for touch-ups using injectable or laser solutions.

How Long Does the Surgery of a Neck Lift Last?

A neck lift surgery on its own generally takes about two to three hours. However, patients looking for a total facial rejuvenation may combine their neck lift with a facelift for a comprehensive face and neck rejuvenation. Additional surgeries may increase the time spent under anesthesia by at least an hour, depending on the treatment plan. You’ll want to prepare yourself by asking someone to drive you home from the surgical center and help to care for you for the first week.

How Much Does Neck Lift Surgery Cost in Austin, TX?

The cost of your neck lift depends on many factors, making it difficult to determine each patient’s price without an evaluation. Dr. Gordon and Dr. Reid will sit down with you during your consultation and discuss your ultimate rejuvenation goals. From there, they will help come up with a financial plan that works for you. Factors that attribute to the total price may include anesthesia fees, tests, post-surgery care and supplies, and prescriptions.

Is there a “Right Age” To Have a Neck Lift?

There is no “right age” to have a neck lift; it really determines how you feel about your appearance and if there is something that you would like to change. Most patients begin to consider having a neck lift in their 40s, as this is when the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin begins to break down and makes skin more susceptible to signs of aging like loose, sagging skin.

Testimonials

Kelly

My name is Kelly and Dr. Ashley Gordon did my procedures.

I went to many other doctors, did extensive research, did a lot of consultations… I just never had that feeling that everything was a complete package. So I was researching on the internet and I went from the Houston market to the Austin market, and Restora came up. It did not matter if there was one review, or 120 reviews, it was always five stars.
