The Breast Lift vs. The Breast Reduction in Austin, TX: Which Is Right for You

Breast augmentation using implants is one of our most popular cosmetic breast surgeries at Restora Austin Plastic Surgery Centre. However, it isn’t the only option for breast enhancement. While implants increase size and enhance shape, our other breast procedures tackle concerns like too much breast tissue or drooping and sagging.

If you’ve got breast problems, we have solutions. Come in for a consultation with one of our board-certified plastic surgeons.

Let’s dive into two highly useful, but less commonly discussed breast surgeries, the breast lift and breast reduction.

What Is a Breast Lift?

Drooping and sagging are common breast concerns. Combine substantial amounts of tissue, changing skin, and gravity, and you’ve got a surefire recipe for sagging breasts. The solution for sagging is a surgical procedure called a breast lift or mastopexy. During a breast lift, tissues are repositioned and reshaped and excess skin is removed. The result of this procedure is a lifted, perkier bust.

Breast size remains fairly constant after a breast lift. Your cup size may change somewhat due to the redistribution of your breast volume, but overall, your breast size will be similar after surgery. Patients that want larger breasts often combine their lift with implants.

Breast lift surgery is useful to counteract the effects of aging, pregnancy, and weight loss. For moderate or extensive lifts, incisions must be made on the breasts, usually along the areola and underneath the breast. Most patients find their scars fade substantially, are easily hidden, and that the improvement in breast shape offsets any scarring that remains.

What Is Breast Reduction Surgery?

Breast tissue is heavy. This added weight isn’t usually an issue for women with small to moderately-sized breasts, but the larger the breast, the heavier it is. Women with very large breasts may experience problems including difficulty exercising, too much attention directed at their breasts, back and shoulder pain, clothing fit difficulties, and rashes under the breast.

When breasts are too large, we often recommend breast reduction surgery. This procedure removes excess breast tissue, reducing the size of the breasts. How much tissue do we remove? That’s a decision you’ll make with your surgeon by finding the right balance between your desired appearance and how you’d like to feel.

Breast reduction surgery usually requires incisions on the breast. Our surgeons use advanced surgical techniques to minimize scarring. Overall, our patients are delighted by how they look and feel after this transformative procedure.
