What Is Motiva?
A new generation of breast implants
Motiva breast implants represent the most significant advancement in breast augmentation technology in decades. Manufactured by Establishment Labs in Costa Rica, Motiva implants received FDA approval following a rigorous multi-year clinical trial.
Before earning U.S. approval, Motiva implants had already been trusted in over 85 countries, with more than 3 million implants placed and zero recorded cases of BIA-ALCL (Breast Implant-Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma) worldwide. In early 2026, more than 5 million implants have been placed.
At Restora Austin Plastic Surgery Centre, we offer Motiva as part of a genuinely personalized approach. It is never one-size-fits-all. Every consultation is bespoke and begins with an honest conversation about your anatomy, your goals, your lifestyle and what’s possible.
Some interesting facts about why we love Motiva breast implants:
- <1% Capsular contracture rate: From FDA 5-year clinical trial data, compared to a historical average of over 10% with traditional implants.
- 5M+ Implants placed globally: Zero recorded cases of BIA-ALCL across all worldwide placements since 2010.
- 97% Patient satisfaction at 5 years: Reported in the FDA’s PMA P230005 clinical trial with mandatory follow-up exceeding 90%.
What Makes Motiva Different
Every component of a Motiva implant was engineered specifically to reduce complication rates, improve longevity, and create the most natural result possible. The Motiva implant and its surface were designed to be biocompatible with your own tissues.
SmoothSilk® | SilkSurface®
Created through 3D nanotechnology, the Motiva surface of 4 microns is engineered to enhance biocompatibility, promote a low inflammatory response, and reduce bacterial attachment on breast implants. This micro-engineered surface aims to minimize the body’s foreign-body response and results in significantly lower rates of complications like capsular contracture.
ProgressiveGel®
Unlike traditional silicone, ProgressiveGel is a proprietary formulation with unique viscoelastic properties. It adapts to body movement and mimics the natural behavior of breast tissue. The Ergonomix version (ProgressiveGel Ultima) takes this adaptability furthest. It will have a tear dropped shape when standing and a rounder shape when laying down.
TrueMonobloc®
A patented shell design that integrates all implant components under the same tensile force, enhancing flexibility, durability, and resistance to rupture even under significant stress. This integration also enables smaller incisions during surgery, supporting minimally invasive approaches like Preservé.
TrueMonobloc® Shell
The next-generation gel-bonding technology that unifies the shell, patch, and gel into one single unit.6
BluSeal®
A pigmented barrier layer that acts as a secondary containment system, preventing gel diffusion to surrounding tissue and providing a visual quality-control indicator that surgeons can inspect before implantation. Even in the rare event of shell compromise, the gel remains cohesive and contained.
Always Confident Warranty®
Motiva’s warranty program covers rupture and capsular contracture, with extended 2-year and 5-year warranty options available. This reflects Establishment Labs’ confidence in the long-term performance of their implants. This confidence is backed by over a decade of global clinical data.
Choosing Your Motiva Implant
Motiva offers two distinct implant styles, the round and the ergonomix. Each implant is designed for a different aesthetic goal. We will help you determine which is the right fit for your anatomy and the result you’re envisioning.
MOTIVA ROUND
Fuller, lifted appearance
ProgressiveGel Plus
Motiva Round implants create a fuller, more structured silhouette with noticeable upper-pole volume. They maintain consistent shape whether sitting, standing, or lying down, delivering a more augmented look with enhanced projection.
The ProgressiveGel Plus filling is more viscous. This allows the implant to hold its shape while remaining soft to the touch. It is more natural in movement than traditional round implants.
Best for: Patients seeking a rounder appearance, enhanced upper-pole fullness, and/or more dramatic projection. It can also be useful in cases where the patient has lost a lot of structural integrity of the gland from breastfeeding and/or weight loss.
MOTIVA ERGONOMIX®
Natural movement & feel
ProgressiveGel Ultima
Ergonomix implants are designed to behave like natural breast tissue. They shift with gravity, are rounder when you’re lying down, maintaining natural or tear dropped shaped appearance when you’re upright. Many patients describe the result as indistinguishable from natural tissue.
Particularly well-suited for those who truly want a natural result.
Best for: Patients prioritizing a natural look and movement or those wanting undetectable enhancement. Many women who desire a ballerina breast or yoga boobs choose the ergo implant.
The Preservé Technique – Minimally Invasive Breast Augmentation
Preservé is a groundbreaking approach to minimally invasive breast enhancement that prioritizes tissue preservation. This means smaller incisions, less disruption to surrounding structures, and a recovery experience that aligns with Austin’s active lifestyle. We use Crisalix 3D simulations in our planning and ultrasound guidance intra-operatively to assure proper placement.

Most surgeons offering Motiva implants learned through standard training channels. Dr. Gordon, however, trained on-site at Establishment Labs’ Global Learning Center in Costa Rica, alongside the engineers and scientists who developed both the implants and the Preservé technique. Dr. Manuel Chacon, the inventor of Preservé, is her mentor and friend. They are working on an exciting project now called “Dress the Breast.” Dr. Gordon is the Co-Chair of the Miami Breast Aesthetics Cadaver Lab, and she and Dr. Chacon, alongside the other faculty, trained the attendees on over the muscle breast augmentation with scaffold and Preservé.
“Being selected for the USA Pioneers Session wasn’t just an honor — it was a chance to learn Preservé directly from the surgeons and engineers who developed it at the facility where every Motiva implant is made.”
— Dr. Ashley Gordon
Who Is a Good Candidate for Motiva Implants in Austin, TX?
Motiva implants are appropriate for a wide range of patients seeking breast augmentation or revision. The best way to know if you’re a candidate is through an honest consultation with Dr. Gordon, not a checklist.
Here are some general factors candidates for Motiva breast implants in Austin, TX share:
- Active Austin lifestyle – Patients who value natural movement during outdoor activities and exercise often find Ergonomix particularly well-suited to their lives.
- Lean or athletic build – Motiva’s SmoothSilk surface and ProgressiveGel reduce visible rippling and edge visibility in patients with minimal natural tissue.
- First-time augmentation – Motiva’s FDA clinical data makes it a well-supported choice for primary augmentation, with among the lowest capsular contracture rates of any approved implant.
- Implant revision – Patients replacing older implants, particularly those with prior capsular contracture, may benefit from Motiva’s next-generation surface technology.
- Safety-conscious patients – For patients who’ve done their research and want the most current safety data, Motiva’s FDA trial transparency and global safety record offer meaningful reassurance.
- Good general health – As with any surgical procedure, candidates should be in good health, non-smoking or willing to stop, and have realistic expectations about outcomes.
Motiva Breast Implants in Austin, TX – Frequently Asked Questions
Are Motiva breast implants FDA approved?
Yes. Motiva breast implants received FDA approval following a rigorous multi-year clinical trial (PMA P230005) involving over 800 patients across multiple U.S. centers, with mandatory five-year follow-up data exceeding 90% retention. They had previously been trusted in over 85 countries for more than a decade before U.S. approval was granted.
What is the Preservé technique and how is it different?
Preservé is a minimally invasive approach to breast augmentation developed alongside Motiva implants, focused on tissue preservation. This includes smaller incisions, less disruption to surrounding anatomy, and an ultra-rapid recovery. It is done under IV sedation, using only Propofol, which is similar to the sedation for a colonoscopy. You will go home and feel normal, and you won’t need any narcotics. Dr. Gordon trained in Preservé directly at Establishment Labs’ Global Learning Center in Costa Rica as part of the elite USA Pioneers Session.
What is capsular contracture, and how do Motiva implants reduce the risk?
Capsular contracture occurs when scar tissue that forms around an implant hardens and tightens, which can cause discomfort and distortion of the breast shape. It’s one of the most common reasons for revision surgery with traditional implants. Historical rates range from roughly 10–23% at 3 years depending on the brand. Motiva’s SmoothSilk nanosurface technology is specifically engineered to reduce the inflammatory response that drives capsular contracture. FDA clinical trial data shows Motiva capsular contracture rates below 1%.
What is the difference between Motiva Round and Motiva Ergonomix?
Motiva Round implants use ProgressiveGel Plus for a fuller, more structured result with consistent upper-pole volume. This is ideal for patients wanting a rounder look with enhanced projection. Motiva Ergonomix implants use ProgressiveGel Ultima, which adapts to gravity and body movement, shifting naturally whether you’re upright, lying down, or exercising. Ergonomix results are often described as indistinguishable from natural breast tissue, making it a favorite for patients prioritizing a subtle, natural outcome.
Is there a warranty on Motiva implants?
Yes. Motiva offers the Always Confident Warranty covering rupture and capsular contracture. Extended warranty programs of 2 years and 5 years are also available. Ask the Restora Team about warranty options and what’s right for you during your consultation.
What is recovery like after Motiva breast augmentation with Preservé?
Recovery varies for every patient, and Dr. Gordon will walk you through a realistic, personalized picture during your consultation. In general, the Preservé approach’s emphasis on tissue preservation is designed to support a very rapid recovery compared to traditional augmentation techniques. Results may vary, and individual experiences will differ.
Why choose Restora Austin for Motiva implants specifically in Austin, TX?
Dr. Gordon was invited to be a part of Motiva’s inaugural Sulàyöm Femtech Experience in July 2024 before the USA launch. She was the first USA surgeon to perform a breast augmentation with Motiva implants at Sulàyöm Innovation Campus in Costa Rica. In July 2025, she was selected, among just 35 U.S. plastic surgeons, for Motiva’s exclusive USA Pioneers Session at Establishment Labs’ Global Learning Center in Costa Rica, where she trained hands-on on the Preservé technique alongside the clinical and engineering team behind the technology. She continues to train USA surgeons on Motiva implants and Preservé.
Dr. Gordon’s depth of training is rare, and she is one of the highest volume users of Motiva implants in the country. Dr. Gordon and Dr. Reid also participate in the Motiva Post-Approval Study, which is a 10-year prospective cohort study mandated by the FDA. This looks at outcomes, complication rates and satisfaction in over 2400 women undergoing primary or revision breast augmentation and a control group.
