Vaginal Rejuvenation

Vaginal Rejuvenation Austin, TX

Are your lady parts not looking very good?

Are they creating a bulge in your clothing or causing pain when you run or cycle?

We understand that private parts are, well, private, and this subject can be embarrassing for some women. Others approach it with a sense of humor. The always outspoken and self-deprecating Khloe Kardashian recently named the bulge in her pants, Camille. Although our surgeons, Dr. Gordon and Dr. Reid, have great senses of humor, they approach this issue very seriously and with the utmost sensitivity and discretion.

Your Concerns

I have decreased clitoral sensation due to excess tissue on my clitoral hood

Cause: Usually a genetic condition
Surgical Solution: A clitoral hood reduction can be performed to remove some of the excess tissue covering the clitoris, thereby restoring or increasing sensation when the clitoris is stimulated.

Cause: Enlarged labia minora, as a result of genetics, aging or stretching from pregnancies
Surgical Solution: A labiaplasty to remove the excess tissue and reduce the size of stretched inner lips, thereby eliminating uncomfortable friction during sexual intercourse.

Cause: Aging or weight loss
Surgical Solution: Labia majora fat grafting to restore youthful fullness. This process involves removing fat from another part of the body using liposuction and re-injecting the purified fat into the deflated labia majora. Dermal fillers, like Perlane, can also be used.

Cause: Genetics, menopause, or the result of weight gain
Surgical Solution: Mons pubis liposuction using SAFELipoTM techniques can remove the excess fat from the bulging area and create a flatter contour.

Cause: Enlarged labia minora, as a result of genetics, aging or stretching from pregnancies
Surgical Solution: Depending on whether the labia majora or labia minora protrude, a labia minora reduction (labiaplasty) or labia majora reduction can be performed to make the labia smaller and more proportionate

Cause: This can be due to a number of reasons depending upon what you dislike. Sometimes, the labia majora or labia minora are asymmetrical, enlarged, stretched and/or out of proportion.
Surgical Solution: A labiaplasty can be performed to reduce the size of the inner labia and make them more symmetrical or more attractively shaped. Labia majora fat grafting or labia majora reduction can be done to reshape and rejuvenate the outer labia.

Why Women Choose Vaginal Rejuvenation

Weight loss, pregnancy, genetics, and aging can all change the appearance and function of the intimate area. For many women, these changes cause more than cosmetic concerns—they can lead to physical discomfort, irritation, hygiene challenges, urinary tract infections, and reduced confidence. Enlarged labia may become irritated during exercise, while wearing fitted clothing, or during intimacy, making everyday activities uncomfortable.

Vaginal rejuvenation procedures can restore comfort, improve confidence, and help women feel more like themselves again. Drs. Gordon and Reid customize every treatment plan to each patient’s anatomy and goals, using advanced techniques designed to minimize scarring, discomfort, and recovery time.

Vaginal Rejuvenation Treatment Options

Our plastic surgeons perform a variety of external vaginal rejuvenation procedures, including:

  • Labiaplasty (Labia Minora Reduction)
  • Labia Majora Fat Grafting
  • Labia Majora Reduction
  • Mons Pubis Liposuction
  • Clitoral Hood Reduction

We also offer ThermiVa®, a non-surgical radiofrequency treatment that tightens the external labia and internal vaginal tissues while improving vaginal moisture, mild to moderate urinary incontinence, and sexual wellness.

Whether you’re seeking relief from discomfort or looking to enhance your confidence, our experienced surgeons will recommend the treatment that best fits your needs and desired outcome.

Labiaplasty/Labia Minora Reduction

If you feel that your labia minora or inner lips are enlarged, stretched out and/or asymmetrical, labia minora reduction surgery or labiaplasty can make them smaller, more symmetrical and in balance with the outer lips or labia majora. Just as your face and breasts can sag and deflate with time, so can your labia. The thin nature of the inner lips puts them at risk for this accelerated aging and stretching.

Because our surgeons are plastic surgeons, they are creative and artistic, and they apply this to every surgery they do. They use an advanced technique for labia minora reduction or labiaplasty that is far superior to the traditional method used by most gynecologists. It was developed by a plastic surgeon who is also an urologist, Dr. Gary Alter from Beverly Hills, and it’s called the “modified wedge” technique. It is more challenging for the surgeon, but provides a very natural-looking result, without a visible scar and with less postoperative pain. The wedge of tissue that is removed is taken from the central labia minora on each side. This means that the scar lays in the crease between the inner and outer labia and not on the bottom of the labia minora. Once this scar heals, it is almost imperceptible. Another advantage is that the normal scalloped edge of the labia minora is preserved.

The traditional method involves placing a clamp across the excess tissue, amputating it, and closing the two sides with a running baseball type of stitch. Surgeons like this technique because it is very quick, but there are several disadvantages that make it unacceptable for Drs. Gordon and Reid. It leaves a linear scar on the bottom of the labia minora. This is very unnatural looking because not only is the scar visible, but the normal scalloped appearance of the inner lips is gone. In addition, the location of the scar can be problematic long term because of friction in clothing, exercise and/or sex.

Labia Majora Fat Grafting

If you feel your outer labia are wrinkled or deflated, labia majora augmentation with fat grafting can help. While we typically see more stretching of the inner lips or labia minora, we see more deflation or volume loss in the outer lips. Fluctuations in weight can also contribute to this. Much like lip augmentation, this procedure involves removing fat using removed from one part of the body through liposuction and injecting the purified fat cells into the deflated labia majora. This gives a plump, firm and youthful appearance to the outer lips. Dermal fillers, like Perlane, can also be used. The advantage of fat is that it will last longer.

Mons Pubis Liposuction

The mons pubis is the fatty deposit just above your pubic bone. While this region has a natural “mound” appearance, the fat cells in this area can expand and begin to bulge excessively, as a result of genetics, menopause and/or weight gain. If you feel your mound is turning into a mountain and is now unsightly, especially under clothing like jeans and exercise wear, mons pubis liposuction is right for you. SAFELipoTM techniques are used to remove the excess fat and create a flatter contour.

Clitoral Hood Reduction

Do you have excess tissue of your clitoral hood, or the layer of tissue that covers your clitoris? As a result, you may experience reduced sensation during sex. In a clitoral hood reduction, sometimes called a clitoral hood lift or clitoral hoodectomy, a small amount of the extra tissue will be carefully removed, so your clitoris can be more easily stimulated. This surgery is usually done for functional rather than cosmetic reasons.

Labia Majora Reduction

Do you feel that your outer labia are uncomfortably large or are they just deflated? Deflation is the much more common of the two, and the treatment is labia majora augmentation with fat grafting. If the labia majora are truly enlarged, labia majora reduction can be done to restore the outer labia to a more normal size and shape.

Labiaplasty in Austin, TX – Q&A

What are the risks of labiaplasty?

Like all surgical procedures, labiaplasty and other vaginal rejuvenation procedures involve certain risks, including the possibility of bleeding, infection, contour irregularities, fluid collection, changes in sensation and unsatisfactory results that may necessitate additional procedures.

After the swelling has subsided and the stitches have dissolved, you will start to see the final results of your surgery.

When done correctly, none of the vaginal rejuvenation procedures or labiaplasty should reduce or impair your ability to enjoy sex. In fact, many of these procedures enhance enjoyment of sex.

Most patients are happy to discover that these procedures and recovery are much better than they anticipated. Discomfort is usually mild. You will be prescribed a pain medication and an anti-inflammatory for the soreness.

You will have visible stitches that will dissolve on their own. You will have swelling that can last for several days to several weeks. The majority of the swelling resolves by 6 weeks.

You should avoid strenuous exercise for 3 weeks and contact sports for 6 weeks. Sexual activity should be avoided for a period of 4-6 weeks. The amount of time necessary will vary depending upon the type of surgery you have had.

Depending upon the extent of your surgery, you might wish to take a few days to a week off from work. For the first few days, it will be uncomfortable to sit in a chair for extended periods of time.

The type of anesthesia depends on the specific procedure you are having, and to some degree, your personal preference. Minor procedures can be performed under local anesthesia. IV sedation and general anesthesia are administered by a Board-Certified Anesthesiologist from Capitol Anesthesiology Association, ensuring your safety and comfort. Safety, comfort and a fast recovery are paramount to Drs. Reid and Gordon. Although it can initially sound appealing to patients to have these type of procedures done under local or sedation in an office setting, our surgeons advise “buyer beware”. These are real operations and should be treated as such.

Your procedure will be done at INSPIRE, our state-of-the-art surgery center that is certified by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgical Facilities (AAASF), which ensures the highest standard of surgical care. INSPIRE is conveniently located in the suite adjacent to Restora Austin and is staffed by a team of Board-Certified Anesthesiologists and very experienced nurses and surgical techs, all of whom were hand-picked by Dr. Gordon and Dr. Reid.

Please see the individual procedure descriptions on this page. Before your surgery, we will go over your exact surgical plan so that you have a clear understanding of what will take place and what you can expect.

Find out by scheduling a consultation at our office with Dr. Gordon or Dr. Reid. She or he will listen to your concerns, whether cosmetic, functional or both, followed by a discreet examination. We can then advise you on what procedure(s) will best meet your goals.

Over the last few years women of all ages are more aware and more concerned with the appearance of their genital area. We believe it’s due to the internet and grooming trends toward less or no pubic hair. The internet has provided a greater awareness that these surgeries exist and is a wonderful tool to educate women on the various options. In addition, women can talk to other women about this sensitive subject on forums like Real Self, all from the privacy of their own home. Grooming preferences, especially for fully waxed look, have exposed the genitalia and made women curious about what “normal” or “ideal” look like. It is very important for patients to realize that variation in labias are the norm. Labia come in all shapes, sizes, colors and textures.
